Google's Summer of Code-Proposal

See the official proposal. I'm excited for the potential of teaming with one or more talented programmers to move this project forward. I believe I made decent choices for technology that even a few years later are relevant and attractive to someone with the right skills and interests. With a little help and encouragement this could be a fun summer project. Here's the proposal statement:

If someone wanted to work on an open source version of my 'Homepage Toolbox', here's a list of projects for it; Bart Massey is willing for PSU to be the sponsoring org for this work because of my close ties to PSU (through Bart).

• Assist in releasing HPTB as an open-source product
• Enhance HTPB to support RSS with enclosures
• Spec and code features to support podcasting
• Spec and code features to integrate HPTB and WordPress
• Implement picture upload using Gallery Remote
• Spec and code features to use Amazon S3 instead of/in addition to local hard drive for photo storage

The beauty of this initiative is that it is entirely open ended. At the end of the summer, those participating will be entirely up-to-speed on a new open source product that has great potential. I've invested significant time and effort to bring toolbox this far, as a single developer holding my ideas close to my chest. I'm ready to let it go; the ideas above are some I have now but I'm sure participants will have their own ideas, and that's the point of the initiative -- let's see what you can do from here!
