An experiment in conquering vertical distance

The target tower

My 'virtually unlimited' vertical distance... about 3 feet between crane and target

"I'm the boss. If this doesn't work, I'll strike you down with this light sabre! OK probably not, but I'm still the boss!"
[Small] [Large]
"I'm the calibrator. My job is to be sure everyone knows just where the bucket starts out. It's an easy job, since I only have to establish the starting position one time, and the boss doesn't start the crane up unless I'll succeed."
[Small] [Large]
"I'm the bucket manager. My job is to ride on this bucket as it travels across virtually unlimited vertical distance. Mostly I am here because somebody thought the picture would be more interesting."
[Small] [Large]
"I'm the crane driver. I do three things. I raise the bucket up and down, and I keep careful track of where the bucket is on the line, and I brag about the view from way up here."

"I'm the crane rotation specialist. I cause the crane to spin from above the calibrator, to above the target."
[Small] [Large]
My friends razz me about relying on Super Glue to keep my models together. I never used it, but in this test run I did need some tape to keep the wire out of the darn way. In production I'll either not need tape, or hide it better.

Another view of Mr. Crane Rotation?

"I'm the target confirmation manager. My job in this test is to signal back to the crane that indeed the bucket made it to the target."
[Small] [Large]
"OK we know where the bucket is, let's do something with it!"
[Small] [Large]
Bucket Dude: "We're right above the target, lower away!"
Boss: "Hey dufus, you're in the way"
Rotation Dude: "heh heh you suck!"
[Small] [Large]
On the way to the target... man it sure is a long way down!
[Small] [Large]
"Better slow it down, we're getting close!'
[Small] [Large]
"Easy now, right in the hole!"
[Small] [Large]
"Hey Mr. Target Confirmation Dude, tell Mr. Bucketlifter we're at the bottom, so he can note the distance."
[Small] [Large]
Going back up now... no, really, it's not just another picture of the bucket going down, this time it's being pulled back up, trust me!
[Small] [Large]
Whew back at the top, I wonder if we can do it again?
