Weirdest Illusion Ever

Check this one out, a very striking illusion indeed. And a nice explanation of what is happening. Wild, weird stuff!

Sci-fi fun

I'm really enjoying Escape Pod and would point to something more specific there except they seem to be having trouble at the moment...

...but I wanted to be sure and blog about it, because it is really making my drive time more pleasant and each time he offers, "donate, or blog about us" and I'm reminded I haven't posted even a word about it. So there you go.

Timebot

Yet another game post... but this one is noteworthy! Check out Timebot, a simple game done well and with a great new mechanic: you work your way through the levels by doing what you can, then pushing the button to jump back in time, and do the next thing. Kinda hard to describe and I'm not quite sure it's time travel... but big unique fun nonetheless!

Logic fun

I've enjoyed stealing a minute here and there over the last few weeks to play Stronghold of Sage, and just completed it today. Good fun and highly recommended if you like that sort of thing.

I got stuck on level 23. Came back to it again and again and tried everything. Eventually I got frustrated and went and found a cheat. NEVER CHEAT... after that every level, every time I got stuck, it was hard to not go cheat again. And now I'm done but can't boast that I did 30 really hard levels (it's a sequel to 3D Logic and much harder).

Good grins

I got a spam with a weird title and it reminded me to go looking... all these years later, Spamusement still going strong. Really cool.

Some of these, I don't know... I find them hilarious! Perhaps I've just seen too much funky spam.

I'm so in!

Just learned that tomorrow is the Great American Smokeout and thought I'd blog a quick note... Monica and I stopped on Halloween! So far so good!

Amusing diversion

I haven't blogged or podcasted or done anything creative in a long time. Hmm. It's not because I'm spending time on silly pasttimes. Busy with other stuff.

But I should stop and create something, soon.

Halloween 2007

Steven and I had big plans to dress up as "Jedi Pirates" and I even went out and bought fresh light sabers... but then he took his to school and lost it, so I didn't dress at all, and he went with a more traditional rendition.

Scary stuff! Gotta love the shirt... my employer handed them out after implementing "Rolling Thunder III". Less said about that the better :)

BASH history fun

I've had to do some sysadmin work lately and was thinking about BASH command-line history. I found an interesting article YOH's Bash History Archiving and while I don't think I'll follow his method, he's stated the concern very well: "It is a reasonable wish to have all of my activites logged, so in the future I could check what I did, how I did."

Pretty sure my needs are met by setting HISTSIZE very big, but also in the same Googling session I found a couple other interesting articles. The latter points to another great idea I'm happy to learn about and will use henceforth: HISTCONTROL=ignoreboth

Now back to the project at hand...

Twitter?

Twitter has hit my radar every couple of weeks since I read this article. I am interested, but hate the fact that the only guy who's personally brought it to my attention lives on the other side of the world.

Means I can keep tabs on what he's about, and try it myself with strangers, and look forward to trying to sell my friends and family on it. Too often I meet with solid resistance to even the best new things, and I'm really really unsure Twitter will be on that list. Instead it seems a really iffy sort of proposition.

...but I'm noting it now in hopes of maybe being really wrong, either about how cool it is or about how easy it is to find somebody close to me to play along.

A Hard Lesson

Occasionally we all get an email worth forwarding. This is one of those:

Mama Ain't Playin'

Looks like Mama is going to make him stand out there for a long time! Ought to be a pretty good lesson, one not easily forgotten! Don't ya think?

He doesn't look very happy, like, maybe the lesson is already working, huh?

Be sure to see all 3 pictures! Now this is a seriously strict mom... don't mess with her...

YOU GO MOM !!!

Lincoln quote

More from LynchMob (not HL as previously posted), a great quote from Abraham Lincoln:

To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards out of men.

Heavy stuff, that.

Dreams that guide our choices...

My man HL sent me a link to this, which is wonderful.

Kitchen Magnet

Kitchen magnets are like bumper stickers, except for heart and home and not for the outside world. Here's one we like and keep on our fridge:

Think deeply, speak gently, love much, laugh aloud, work hard, give freely and be kind

I don't know where we got this and while it's not from the bible, and therefore subject to serious debate, it sounds like truth doesn't it? The quest continues :)

What I did on vacation

I hacked a lot, napped a lot, chatted a lot, and yesterday I went out with a client and shot a lot of ammo!

It was SO choice. I'd never shot a pistol before and now can say I've shot about 10 different ones of various makes and calibers. And as an added surprise, they broke out a couple machine guns, whoot!

Will Santa put a USB mic under the tree?

I really would love a chance to see if one of these 4 microphones would be as good as it seems it would be.

Mad props to Neal! He says, as a follow-on, "Rhode is a higher-end company the other two are semi-professional level
The Alesis one only has one review and it's awful
Alesis is a mixed-bag company
go Samson if you want cheap and Rhode if you want top-quality"

Tag this "Christmas wish list" :)

Stupid Internet

How telling that this is at our fat finger tips but the version it mocks is not.

I noticed a mistake I've been making and need to do better with. Some people do indeed dream of success, and lately I haven't been one of the others that wakes up and works hard at it. I should do less goofing off and focus more on productivity!

About This Blog

Mostly this blog exists just because it can, and because I'm coding the toolbox to make it all happen. The development effort continues and you can now jump into the archives and view my rambles from 2Q2002, when I started this version, and also 3Q2002 if you want. Or you can view every entry by title (I hope Google doesn't flip out on my new linkage).

Netrunner

I still host a nice Netrunner Card Database. Netrunner is pretty much dead and I don't maintain the content anymore.

Valid HTML 4.0!

love the debian!
